My experience in transmog has been pretty well documented, but there are so many other stories that I would rather hear about other players' experience with transmogrification on the auction house. What's your story? Were you an early adopter, able to ride a wave of success? Has your realm size limited your ability to build an inventory?

Give me your story, I'd love to hear it!

What has YOUR experience been? Empty My little mog-banker...

Post  Kremti Tue Mar 13, 2012 11:35 am

My server is Med-pop, PvE, super-Alliance skewed. I play on Alliance side and have not moved into Horde side (I'm tempted, just to see if I can find some wares I can move to Alliance side...plus I'm very interested in some of the Horde Only patterns).

I created my transmogging exclusive banker-character almost exactly 1 month ago. The character started with 250g, and 99% of the activity on the character has been self-contained, and all buying/selling transmog stuff. The liquid gold on that character sits at 82K right now.

-K

Edit: Of note...I do not use RAH.

I've been in the market for about 2 months. It all started when I came across a Power Word Gold video on "Find Mogging Items To Flip With Auctionator, MogIt & AH Searches." From there I found The Hatchery and the mail/plate lists. Its been non stop since then thanks to Keelhaul & Jim.

I play on a high pop server. Ratio is pretty dead even at .988 A/H. My first sale was a pair of Saltstone Legplates for 5,000g. I first started selling only on Alliance, but then made an alt on Horde side which I had a couple friends help transfer a total of around 15,000g over a period of time, with that gold I would buy the items from Horde AH to transfer back over to Alliance side (with the help of friends of course.) After time passed I had a lot of extras so I decided to start selling on Horde side also.

When I started on back on January 17th, I had around 38,000g. Today I have close to 480,000g and over 2,500 pieces of transmog gear in my stock, including 36 complete sets. This doesn't count for the Spectral Tiger I bought myself for 160,000g. I've been able to control most of the market, but more and more competition rolls in.

I was just lucky to be the few if not the first person to start collecting in the market on my server and that the community have been into mogging their gear. So in 55 days my total earnings have been around 600,000g on my server.

What has YOUR experience been? Empty A Tale of Two Low-pop Realms

Post  loopnotdefined Tue Mar 13, 2012 1:29 pm

I first got into the transmog market on my Horde server, Winterhoof [US:PVE], in early January 2012. Using Keelhaul's Unabridged Transmog lists on The Hatchery, I bought up all Tier 1-6 items under 20g (which all of them were for the first few weeks) and settled on relisting them 30% lower than Keel's suggested prices after some trial-and-error.

Given the smaller-leaning population of Winterhoof, auction listings were frequently sparse, and few were interested in buying what I was selling. This started to change after hosting some "Transmog Friday" contests where I awarded 1000g to the three best-dressed players that showed up. Items started moving - especially plate - and I was easily making up the costs of Transmog Friday in sales.

With the success of Horde-side (which was approaching 80,000g gross profit) I decided to give Alliance-side, Blackwater Raiders [US:RP-PVE], a serious shot in late February. This situation was much more grim, unfortunately. With a roughly equivalent population to Winterhoof, a very late-start into the transmog game, and the added competition of being a Roleplay realm, there were far too many hands in a very tiny bucket. Only one other player stuck to higher prices (which helps grab attention and make sales); everybody else undercut hard and fast, often dropping prices into double-digits, although not low enough to be worth buying/relisting. The effort it took to work up funds and assets, slowly buy out undercutters, and still make sales pretty much sapped me.

My transmog expedition helped push me into Auction House addons, which I've been reluctant to use for years. Manually buying and selling each item was incredibly time-consuming. I tried a couple different ones, but settled on those suggested by Keelhaul and Jim Younkin of Power Word Gold: Auctionator and TradeSkillMaster (TSM). With those two addons, purchasing and listing was reduced from an hour-long process to about 10 minutes, then up to 20 minutes as I expanded into Alliance-side. As I got more comfortable with TSM and it's additional modules, I even pushed into the Jewelcrafting market.

About two weeks into March I decided to call it, vendoring or disenchanting my entire transmog stock. With over 100,000g on Horde-side, and a steady JCing business on Alliance-side (transmog cost almost as much as I was making due to undercutters), the 20 minute mornings ate up the majority of my free time. I was really missing...well, killing things.

All-in-all it's been a fun and worthwhile trip. The 100,000g is nothing to sneeze at for a player like me, and building familiarity with TSM has opened up a whole new aspect of WoW. I'm still selling some transmog items Horde-side: Blacksmithing's Enchanted Thorium Breastplate/Leggings and Darksoul pieces, none of which can be learned post-Cataclysm. Jewelcrafting has also been great Alliance-side, considering the entire operation takes no more than 1 minute with TSM, each day. I really owe it to Keel and Jim for all they've done, especially Keel for really busting this whole thing wide open.

I stayed out of the xmog market for a long time. Not that I didn't feel it would be good, just didn't think it would be good on MY server (US-Ursin). Which it really isn't still yet. I was also turned off by a lot of things. (mostly lack of knowledge and laziness to research)

Talking with Keelhaul was actually what finally convinced me to try out this market.
hehe I think the story of how I got my mog items for my main might already be documented, so I won't bore you with that, though it wasn't until after then that I decided to try my hand in this market.

My main server is weak on pop and getting weaker by the day, and it hasn't really taken off there well, so it is just a very small side venture I do on weekends and I do both horde and ally side. However, I very recently rolled a toon on a medium pop server (Malfurion) where my husband had transfered his toons to a while back. I was going to level to 85, but after an hr I realized that was a lot of work, so I decided to work on what I do best and I settled into the ah.

I stayed in my comfort zone at first and accrued 2k or so flipping glyphs and gems. Then a few weekends ago I decided to try the mog market. For 200g spent I was shocked to wake up the next morning to 8k in my mailbox literally overnight. I am still experimenting with and figuring out the pricings on that server, but it's completely different from what I'm used to on my server.

My gold making experience has been on the casual side. I'm not super into it, but from time to time I'll check the AH for pieces. I've sold a few things here and there and made a modest sum.

Granted, being on Earthen Ring, it's a bit hard when you're directly competing against Keelhaul :P

What has YOUR experience been? Empty Re: What has YOUR experience been?

My experience has been less impressive and more "average" as far as I can tell. I started up late January and am sitting on about 50,000 gold. I am very slowly leveling five characters and can't afford Cata yet. I'll probably be able to afford it once MoP comes out, so even then I'll still be an expansion behind.

I started playing in late November and started focusing on gold making in late December. I hadn't really bothered with transmog because I didn't feel comfortable spending so much gold with the prospect of being stuck with a lot of inventory. I created a banker in early January to store my limited supply recipes and found there was very little banker clothing on the auction house at the time. So I started selling shirts and banker gear on my main. I have the remote auction house, which I check often and was able to see sure enough bankers were buying my gear and characters buying shirts often had something transmoged. Then in late January, I came across an in demand weapon for cheap and figured that I could flip it, but wouldn't it be nice to have some outfits to go with it?

My first sale was within twenty four hours by a goldmaker on my server faction. A single Skettis piece. The next day, someone bought all of my Conqueror's pieces and the goldmaker came back to buy another Skettis piece. I then knew that there was good demand.

I play on Skywall's Horde, which has the population of around 25,000. It's tenth overall population wise on the west coast servers, and sixth for horde. It's skewed a little in favor for the alliance, but not too bad. I'm missing some of the higher tier items.

I was fortunate to start when I did because while someone was already there, he was getting discouraged by lack of sales, so I was able to swoop right in. The first week I got 20 sales and made about 5,000 gold. I now average about 10,000 every week, though people are starting to buy more of my high priced items and last Friday I made 11,000. I'm noticing more and more that I'm getting some "frequent flyers" and would love to reward them with WoW Factor since they rarely ever get to see the finished outfit. I'm starting to get deep undercutters being just above my threshold buy price. For the most part I just ignore them. Most assume their items will be snatched right up and that often doesn't happen so they get discouraged and leave.

I agree with Loopnotdefined that you really need to have a shopkeeper mentality to stay in the market. You also have to see yourself as a service provider. The way I look at it, if I didn't follow Keelhaul's pricing list and priced items the way critics wanted, most of the items would become disenchantment material or used then quickly vendored. I'm waiting for someone who will truly use and enjoy my items for the long term, so each buy I get feels good. The price merely reflects the value.

Selling the items got me interested in creating outfits for my own characters. It really helps to know what it's like to wait for a week for a particular item to pop up on the auction house that you intend to use for yourself.

Mostly, I'm interested in where this road is going to take me and look forward to the future.

On Antonidas US server, Ive had a lot of success with both transmog and inscription. In the passed month ive made myself 255k gold! But Im starting to see slows in sales and I cant figure out how to setup TSM for the fastest reposting. I was wondering if there was a way you could help me with that?
Thanks for this site and your transmog lists they've helped me soo much!
